ABOUT
HAUSEN may be described as many things—a gallery, an institution, a community, a salon, a collection—but above all else HAUSEN is intended to serve as an intimate space for people to engage with art and with themselves.
In honor of authentic expressions of autonomous Afro-diasporic identity, HAUSEN is upholding its founder’s commitment to showcase, celebrate and support contemporary art, culture and design from Africa and its diaspora.
The programming at HAUSEN takes many forms—exhibitions, screenings, installations, performances, readings and talks—depending on the medium and message of the artist or cultural producer whose work is being showcased.
Through direct engagement with artists and creative communities in various disciplines and diasporas, HAUSEN is creating one of the most authentic public programming and private collections on contemporary African art.
HAUSEN places a priority on acquiring works of art directly from artists. In an effort to contribute to the sustainability of their art practice, HAUSEN is committed to ensuring that artists receive a resale royalty for their artworks.
Ultimately, beyond a collection or curation of contemporary art, HAUSEN seeks to build a global community driven by collaboration and conversation that strengthens the bonds of solidarity among all people of African descent.
